第4輯 第6課 Can you hold the line, please?


記得有一次在朋友的家裡面，電話響了，他把電話接起來，竟然
很害怕地把電話摔回去，一句話也未講。搞了半天，才驚魂未定地說：「有個老外打電話來。」其實也不用如此驚慌，應對的說話非常簡單，你只要跟他
說："One moment please." 或是 "Just a moment please." 或是很有自信跟他說："Can you
hold the line, please?"請對方稍等一下，你就可以想辦法去求救或去找那個他要找的人。"Can you hold the
line, please?" 「請不要掛斷，稍待片刻。」


對話
A：Hello. Front desk.
甲：你好，接待處。
B：I´d like to make a long distance call to New York, please.The number is 476-3489.
乙：我想打一個長途電話去紐約，電話號碼是 476-3489。
A：May I have your name and room number, please?
甲：請告訴我你的名字跟房間號碼。
B：This is Nigel in Room 1239.
乙：我是奈傑爾，房間號碼是1239。
A：Could you repeat the phone number, please?
甲：請你再重覆一次電話號碼好嗎?
B：Sure. The number is 476-3489 in New York.
乙：當然可以，號碼是 476-3489，在紐約。
A：Can you hold the line, please?Your party is on now. Go ahead, sir.
甲：請你別掛線好嗎? ...... 現在接通了，先生，可以說話了。

當接線生跟你說："Can you hold the line, please?" 你可以回答說：
"Thank you, no problem, I will hold." 「謝謝，沒有問題，我不會掛斷的。」
其實在國外很多的飯店裡，不太可能只拿起電話就打，像打長途電話、國際電話般付費，那個時候你可以跟接線生說："I´d like to make a
long distance call."「我希望能夠打一通長途電話。」或是"I´d like to make an international
call."或是"I´d like to make a collect call."「我想打一通對方付費電話。」
