| 今天要教大家一個非常受用的字，那就 是"Appreciate"，中文意思是「感謝、欣賞」的意思。為甚麼說你會非常受用呢？除了要表示感謝之外，有的時候想請別人幫忙，甚至有點強人所難的 時候，這句話都會非常好用："I know it´s difficult, but I´d appreciate it if you could."「我知道這很困難，但是如果你能做得到的話，我會非常感激你的。」 "I´d appreciate it if you could."這真是一句太棒的話了。因為在這句話的後面你可以加上所有合理甚至是不合理的要求。例如你可以說："I´d appreciate it if you could lower your voice."「如果你可以小聲一點的話，我會非常感謝你。」或者你也可以說："I´d appreciate it if you could fly me to the moon."「如果你可以把我飛上月球去的話，我會非常欣賞你的。」知道怎麼用了吧？ |

| Appreciate的用法 Appreciate這個字，口頭上、書面上都很常用，但在華人社會裡卻常見誤用，例如不說I´d appreciate it if you could. 而說I´d appreciate if you could. Appreciate解作「感謝」或「欣賞」，是及物動詞 (transitive verb)，必須和受詞 (object) 連用，例如：I really appreciate all the help you have given me.（真感謝你給我的種種幫忙）。I would appreciate if you could. 的appreciate卻沒有受詞，文法自然不對；要改正，必須加一it字，那it代表if子句 (clause) 所說的事，作appreciate的受詞。謹再舉一例：I would appreciate it if you could give me a reply as soon as possible.（＝I would appreciate an early reply祈盡早賜覆，至感。） 上述appreciate句子當然都可用被動語態 (passive voice) 改寫，例如：An early reply would be (much / greatly) appreciated. It would be appreciate if you could give me a reply as soon as possible. 此外，商業書信往往把appreciate當作「明白」或「知道」，其後可用受詞或that子句，例如： (1) I appreciate your worries, but would like to say that they are unfounded.（閣下之憂慮不難明白，但並無根據。） (2) I appreciate that you would like to expand your business.（我明白貴公司有意擴展業務。） 但appreciate的這個用法很不自然，即使商業書信最好也改用understand一字，一般寫作、說話等更是如此。 |
