| 當電話響起來的時候，對方說："Hello, This is Bill. Can I speak to Jessey?" 嘻，Jessey不就是我嗎？這個時候你該怎樣回答呢？乾淨俐落的一句話："Speaking." |
| 對話 A：Hello. 甲：你好嗎﹖ B：May I speak to Mr. Jack Law? 乙：可以請羅傑克聽電話嗎﹖ A：Speaking. 甲：我就是。 B：Oh, hello, Mr. Law. This is Kathi Jones. 乙：噢，你好，羅先生，我是凱瑟琳?鍾斯。 A：Oh, yes, Miss Jones. How are you? 甲：噢，是，鍾斯小姐，你好嗎﹖ B：Very well, thank you. I´m calling in connection with the renewal of my visa. 乙：很好，謝謝。我打來是想問一下有關護照續期的事。 A： Yes ? 甲：喔﹖ "Speaking." 怎會那麼簡單呢？其實最標準的說法應該說是"This is Jessey speaking."「我就是Jessey。」但是因為現代人比較懶，也有比較簡潔的說法，你可以說："Jessey speaking." 或是 "This is Jessey." 或是 "Jessey here." 最懶的時候就是說："Speaking." |

| 誰的電話？ 接電話時，聽到對方說：Can I speak to Mr. So-and-so?（請某某先生聽電話好嗎？）而你正是某某，那麼一般就不必重複自己的名字，只說Speaking.就可以，不用說So-and-so speaking.，更不應說So-and-so is speaking. 但假如你不是某某，你就應該請對方稍等一等，待你去找：Just a minute please. / Hang on please. / Hold the line please, I´ll get him to the phone.（請等一下，我叫他來聽電話。）Hang on是「不掛斷（電話）」的意思，和hang up（掛斷電話）不同，改說Hold on please. 也可以。對方則應說：Thanks.（謝謝）或All right.（好）。 放下電話，你就得去找某某告訴他：「你的電話。」 英文是：There´s a call for you. 或You´re wanted on the phone. 假如電話響時某某也在場，那麼你只需說：It´s for you. 就行了。在公共場所發出尋人廣播，措辭也差不多：There´s a phone call for Mr. So-and-so. / Mr. So-and-so is wanted on the phone. Please come to the counter.（某某先生的電話，請到櫃檯接聽。） 好了，某某找到了，他拿起電話的時候，可就不能只說：Speaking 一個字，必須說：Hello, So-and-so speaking. 或Hello, this is So-and-so. 或 Hello, So-and-so here.（喂，我就是某某。）當然，像中文那樣說：I´m So-and-so. 是絕對不宜。 |
