| 無論是商場上或生活上，可以堪稱使用率最高的一句英文就 是："May I help you?" 為甚麼會這麼說呢？因為我們都知道無論是公司的接待處或電話接線生，甚至是商店裡的售貨員，看到客人的第一句話通常都是："May I help you?"其實這句話的意思就是說：「請問我有甚麼可以幫忙嗎？」 |
| 對話 A：May I help you ? 甲：有甚麼可以幫你的? B： Yes. I´m looking for Sims Co., Ltd. 乙：哦，我在找Sims有限公司。 A： Oh, you´re on the wrong floor. It´s one floor up. 甲：哦，不是這層，要再上一層呢。 B：Is it? Isn´t this the fifth floor? 乙：是嗎﹖這兒不是五樓嗎﹖ A： No, this is the fourth. 甲：不是，這兒是四樓。 B： Oh, I see. Thank you. 乙：原來如此，謝謝你。 "May I help you?" 意思就是說「我有甚麼可以幫到你嗎？」但你也可以說："Can I help you?" 其實"May I help you?"是比"Can I help you?"更加有禮貌。 除此之外，還有很多人喜歡說："What can I help you?" 這句話在文法上是錯誤的，正確的說法應該是："What can I help you with?"或是"What can I do to help you?" |

| 我可以效勞嗎？ 問人家「我可以效勞嗎？」英文是May / Can I help? 其他說法是Do you need any help? 或Would you like me to help? 或 Let me know if I can help 或 Can I give you a hand? To give somebody a hand. 是成語，指「幫助某人」，那a字切勿改為my、her等。To give somebody one´s hand. 是「答應嫁給人家」，例如：She gave me her hand.（她答應嫁給我。）人家問你要不要幫忙，你要的話，可以說Yes, please.（好啊，麻煩你。）、Yes, I hope so.（好啊，希望你能幫忙。）、Thank you.（謝謝）、Great.（好極了）、That´s very kind / nice of you, thanks.（你真好，謝謝。）英文常用「it is + 形容詞 + of somebody + to do something」來說「某人這樣做真……」，例如：It´s heartless of him to treat his mother like that.（他這樣對待母親，真沒良心。）假如你無須人家幫忙，則可以說：It´s all right, thanks, I can manage.（不必了，謝謝，我還可以應付。）、No, don´t bother, really.（不必了，真的不用麻煩你。）、No, it´s OK.（不必了。）、Thank you, but it´s OK.（謝謝，但不必了。）、Not at the moment, thank you.（暫時不用，謝謝。）等。 看見別人把四樓當作五樓，你可以上前說May I help you? 然後指出他找錯了地方。在美國，地面上第一層建築物叫first floor（一樓），第二層叫second floor（二樓）；英國人則把地面上第一層叫ground floor，第二層才叫first floor，偶有誤會並不奇怪。 |
