| 一間公司一年的營業額直接反映了該公司的賺錢能力，是個非常重要的指標。 如果我們想直接了解一間公司的競爭力，除了問它的市場佔有率外，就是問它一年的營業額。"What´s the total amount of your annual sales?"「請問你們整年的營業額有多少？」在我們學會這句話之後，我們要進一步問下一個問題就是：「你們每年的利潤有多少呢？」其實非常簡單，把這 個"amount"改成"profit"。"What´s the total profit of your annual sales?"「請問你們整年的利潤是多少呢？」或者你想問問人家：「那麼你們每年的毛利率有多少呢？」"What is the percentage of your gross profit?" |
| 對話 A：What´s the percentage of overseas markets in proportion to domestic markets for your products? 甲： 你們公司產品的海外市場銷售量跟國內市場相比，所佔的比率是多少呢﹖ B：The ratio is about 7 overseas to 3 domestic. 乙：海外與國內的比率大約是七比三。 A：And what´s the total amount of your annual sales? 甲：你們公司一年的營業額有多少呢﹖ B：For the fiscal year 2002 it was a little over three hundred billion yen. 乙：根據二零零二會計年度的數字顯示，營業額略超過三千億日元。 A：I see. 甲：我知道了。 |

| 銷售和利潤 人家問：What´s the percentage of your gross profit?（你們的利潤率是多少？）你可以說：Our annual gross profit margin is about 20%.（我們一年的利潤率是百分之二十左右。）有時你還會看到net profit一詞，這和gross profit有甚麼分別呢？ Gross profit是「毛利」，指貨物賣得的金額減去工資、原料費用和工廠營運開支後的利潤；net profit則是「純利」，指毛利減去貨物銷售成本和行政費用後的利潤。Sales turnover / revenue是「銷售額」，並未扣除成本。We had a turnover of US$8 million, and a net profit of US$1.5 million last year.即「去年我們的銷售額為八百萬美元，純利有一百五十萬。」 現在請看以下兩句："What´s the percentage of your gross profit?" "It was about 20% last year."第一句以縮寫的What´s起句，第二句可不可以也用縮寫的It´s? 答案是：不可以。Is、has往往都可縮寫為´s，例如He´s (=He is) wrong（他錯了），He´s (=He has) gone mad.（他瘋了），但was卻不可縮寫為´s。It was about 20% last year.是說「去年毛利潤率為百分之二十左右」，動詞自然不能用現在式動詞is。 最後不妨說說的是sales volume或volume of sales。這是指「銷售量」，即貨物賣出的數量，和指金錢的sales turnover不同。Our volume of sales has been quite high this year. 即「今天，我們貨物的銷售量很不錯。」 |
