| 曾經教過大家"I´ve had enough."「我受夠了。」"I´ve had enough of him."「我受夠了這個人。」可能長時間這個人做了一些令你討厭的事情，到了最後，你終於要說受不了他。但今天要教大家是："I can´t stand it!"「我受不了這個人，我受不了這件事情。」"I can´t stand him!"我受不了他。"I can´t stand shopping!"「我受不了逛街這件事情!」"I can´t stand hamburgers!"「我受不了漢堡包!」"I can´t stand it!"「我受不了！」其實令人受不了的事情真是蠻多的。記得有一次看電影，劇情是說母親期盼著逃兵兒子回來，一年復一年，孩子終於回來了，母親很激動 說："I can´t stand it anymore!" 萬萬沒有想到字幕打出來是「我再也不能站立。」意思完全譯錯了，真是啼笑皆非。如果你不想用"I can´t stand it!"的話，你還可以用"I can´t tolerate it."或是："I can´t bear it." |
| 對話 A：I can´t stand it anymore ! 甲：我再也受不了! B：Take it easy. What´s wrong with you? 乙：放鬆一點。你有甚麼不妥呀？ A：The mosquito keeps flying around my head. 甲：有一隻蚊子正繞著我頭飛來飛去。 |

| 無可奈何 I can´t stand it!是「我再也受不了!」 。 「忍受」英文叫stand，也可說put up with ，例如：I wouldn´t put up with / stand his arrogance if I were you. （我是你的話，就不會容忍他的狂妄態度。） 難以忍受的人或物，會get on one´s nerves. Nerve是「神經」，to get on one´s nerves即「使人神經緊張或煩躁不安」，例如：The jam of the traffic is getting on my nerves.（車輛的聲音使我心煩。） 不過，現實即使難以忍受，我們往往也無可奈何，這英文叫做If you don´t like it, you may lump it.（假如你不喜歡，也要忍受。），lump作動詞解作「忍受」，是俗語用法，例如：If the people of Hong Kong don´t like the Tung Chee-hwa government, they may lump it.（香港人即使不喜歡董建華政府，也只能忍下去。） 和like it or lump it 同義的，有to grin（露齒而笑）and bear（忍受）it 一語，直譯是「苦笑著忍受」或「逆來順受」，例如：Though the people of Hong Kong hate the Tung Chee-hwa government, they have to grin and bear it. 還有一個常用語是不能不懂的：to live with。這本來是說「同居」，例如He is living with Mary. 是「他和瑪麗住在一起。」也許，同居必須互相容忍，所以to live with 也可解作「忍受惡劣的情況」，例如：I am afraid we will have to live with SARS from now on.（我們以後恐怕要在非典型肺炎威脅下生活了。） |
