| 我想天下間的男士們最痛苦的事是跟女朋友或老婆一起逛街，第 一痛是荷包受傷，第二痛是替女伴出主意。假如你的女朋友或老婆愛問哪一件衣服比較好看，紅色還是紫色好等問題而你又茫無頭緒的話，可以答：I have no idea. (我沒意見)。Idea 解作「想法，意見」，I have no idea. 跟I don´t know. 都是「我不知道，沒意見」的意思，可是如果直接說：I don´t know.，好像少了一點誠意，給別人想都沒想就回答的感覺。除了I have no idea. 外，也可以用I´m clueless. / I haven´t a clue.（我沒頭緒），或 I couldn´t tell you. / I couldn´t say. 都是「我沒有意見的意思」。 |
| 對話 A:Gordon can you come over here, please? Which one is better? 甲：哥頓，可否過來這邊？哪一個比較好？ B:I have no idea. 乙：我無意見。 A:Come on, can´t you make up your mind for once? 甲：來吧，你今次不能作個決定嗎？ B:Well, this one really reminds me of you, but I know you like the other one. 乙：好吧，這個能令我聯想起你，但我知道你喜歡另外那個。 |

| 不知道 人家問你問題，你要說「不知道」，可以說：I don´t know. 或 I have no idea.。要加強語氣，則可以說：I haven´t the faintest / foggest / vaguest idea.。Faint, foggy, vague都是「模糊」的意思，「最模糊的概念都沒有」，自然是一無所知了，例如：I haven´t the faintest idea where he got wind of my arrival.（我完全不知道他從哪裡打聽到我來了）。 有時，你會聽見人家說：You have no idea, you can´t have the faintest idea. 等，這與其說是「你不知道」，不如說是用來強調一件事，有「你無法想像」含義，例如：You have no idea how badly the car was damaged.（你不會想像得到那輛車損毀得多麼厲害）。 I have the foggest idea. 的idea往往會用同義詞notion取代；口語I haven´t the foggest.等於I haven´t the foggest idea / notion.，例如："Is there a post office nearby?" "I haven´t the foggest."（「附近有郵局嗎？」「我不知道。」） "Do you know where the diamond is?" "Search me."這兩句對話是甚麼意思呢？假如解作「你知道那顆鑽石在哪裡嗎？」「搜我身吧」那就錯了。Search me雖然可解作「搜我的身」，但俗語往往引伸其義解作「不知道」。所以，聽見人家說Search me，不要鹵鹵莽莽真的就動手去搜人家的身；假如人家是個大姑娘，你更可能因此入獄。 此外，You´ve got me (there). / Beats me. 也是「這可難倒我了」的意思，例如："Which is better?" "Beats me."「哪個較好？」「我不知道。」 |
