| 相信有不少台灣人都有投資設廠的經驗，想了解一家廠房的效 率，參觀機器設備固然是其中一個辦法，但最重要的還是要知道它的整體生產效率，例如它的每月平均產量： Monthly production capacity，我們可以問：What´s the monthly production capacity for this model? 這個型號的產品的每月產量是多少? 除了monthly production capacity「月產量」之外，在廠房裡十分常用的還有「日產量」、「周產量」甚至是「年產量」，你只要把這個Monthly 改成 Daily、Weekly 或是 Annual就行了。 |
| 對話 A：Do you have overseas plants as well? 甲：你們在海外也設有工廠嗎﹖ B：Yes, we have one in Korea and two in America. We´re building another one in Mexico. 乙：有的，我們有一間在韓國，有兩間在美國。我們在墨西哥正在興建另一間。 A： What´s your monthly production capacity for this model? 甲：你們這個型號的產品，每月的生產量是多少呢﹖ B：This one is manufactured only for the domestic market, so let me see... it would be approximately fifty thousand units. 乙：這個產品是只為國內市場生產的，讓我想想看……大概是五萬吧。 |

| 工廠的生產力 Do you have overseas plants as well?是「你們在海外也設有工廠嗎？」As well兩字合用，是「也」、「並且」的意思，例如：I gave him a dictionary, and a calculator as well.（我給他一本字典，以及一個計算機。） Plant是工廠，例如a nuclear plant（核工廠）、a car plant（汽車工廠）。一般而言，說「工廠」多用factory一字，說a works也可以。A car factory和a car works等於a car plant。不過factory、works二字多指從事比較舊式製造業的工廠；電腦工廠等，多稱為plant (a computer plant)。此外，plant字在美國比在英國常用。 說到工廠，不免要談到其生產力(production capacity)。這capacity（能力）一字有幾個特別詞語，談工廠生產力者不可不識。一是full (production) capacity，指生產力發揮到極限，例如：To meet the consumer demand, our plants are working at full capacity. (為了滿足消費者需求，我們的工廠已開足馬力生產。)廠商最害怕的不是full capacity，而是excess (production) capacity或overcapacity，即「生產力過剩」。Workers will have to be laid off because of the overcapacity problem. 即「由於生產力過剩，將要裁減工人。」最理想的情況，是工廠既不必裁員，又有spare capacity（增加生產的餘力），例如：Our plants have spare capacity and we can easily increase production if necessary.（我們的工廠有增加生產的餘力，一有需要，即可增產。） |
