| 和人聊天最怕是彼此言不及意，說了老半天還不知道討論的主題 是甚麼，尤其是商業會議，十個人開會每人說一分鐘廢話就浪費了大家一百分鐘的時間，所以還是盡快進入正題為妙。"Let me get down to the main business."「讓我言歸正傳吧。」 還有另外一個說法："Let´s get down to the heart of the matter."也就是「讓我們討論重點吧！」類似的說法還有："Let´s get back to the business at hand." 雖然也是「讓我們一起來討論重點」的意思，但有一點點時間程度上的差別，因為這個"at hand"就是在手上的事情，是比較緊急的事情，所以整句話的意思是「讓我們一起來解決這個當務之急吧。」 |
| 對話 A：Bye bye. 甲：再見。 B：Bye. Is that all you wanted to see me about? 乙：再見，你要見我就只為了這些事嗎﹖ C：No, not quite. Now let me get down to the main business. 丙： 不，不只這些。現在讓我進入正題吧。 B：O.K. 乙：好的。 C：The board of directors finally agreed to set up an overseas office in New York. 丙：董事會最後同意在紐約設立海外辦事處。 B：Oh, did they? 乙：呵，真的嗎﹖ C：And they wanted me to ask if you are still interested in working abroad. 丙：還有，他們要我問你是否還有興趣到海外工作。 |

| 還是談正題吧 開會時，你見大家盡在說些不？邊際的話，為免浪費時間，你可以說：Let´s get down to the main business.（我們還是談正題吧）。那get down to三字的用法值得注意。Get down to是一動詞片語 (phrasal verb)，有「開始認真處理」的意思，例如：(1) You really must get down to your English.（你真要開始認真學好英文了。） (2) After some discussion, we got down to work.（我們討論了一會兒之後，就開始專心工作。） 說要認真討論事情，英文俗語還可用to talk turkey一詞，例如：We have business to discuss. Let´s talk turkey.（我們有正事要商量，得認真談談。）To talk turkey直譯是「談火雞」。據說，從前有一白人和一印第安人合力獵得一些火雞、烏鴉。那白人把烏鴉都分給對方，火雞全給自己；那印第安人忍不住，說 I´m going to talk turkey to you.（我要跟你談火雞的問題。）所以，to talk turkey有「實實在在談問題」的意思。 會議的議題，原來是公司準備在海外開辦事處。「海外」英文說overseas或abroad都可以，但這兩個字用法有分別：overseas可以作形容詞 (adjective) 和副詞 (adverb)，abroad則只可作副詞。「海外辦事處」只能夠譯做an overseas office，不得說an abroad office；「在海外工作」則譯做to work overseas或to work abroad都可以。 |
